Tigers in serious talks with Jordan Zimmermann
The Tigers had one of the worst pitching numbers in the majors last season, with a 4.64 ERA (28th), a 1.37 WHIP (21st), giving up a. 268 batting average (26th) and had only 72 quality starts, tied for 21st in major league baseball.
Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi and Ken Rosenthal reported late Saturday that talks between the two sides were heating up and they’ve now apparently crossed the finish line.
Zimmermann has been linked to several teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs, and is expected to command a contract that exceeds $100 million. Rich Dubroff of CSNmidatlantic.com writes that Baltimore has the budget to sign Davis and one other notable player and that’s all as they intend to stretch their budget to around $130-140 million. “But at the end of the day, you have to be prudent and use your resources and finances to the best of your ability”.
“Some days I didn’t have it. Some days I was good – and I’m not saying this is my last start. We’re just staying close to the process”.
Jordan Zimmermann hit free agency this winter after seven seasons with the Washington Nationals who drafted the right-hander in the second round of the 2007 Draft.
Zimmerman was 13-10 with a 3.66 ERA in a career-high 33 starts for the Washington Nationals last season.
