New Raspberry Pi Zero sells out in just 24 hours
If you’re still hungry for pie after Thanksgiving, you might be interested in the newest offering from Raspberry Pi. But Eben, the father of the Pi, could not stop there and made a version for $5 Dollars dubbed the Raspberry Pi Zero. The Raspberry Pi 2 (pictured) with enhanced memory and CPU performance is priced at $35.
The Raspberry Pi Foundation has revealed that the latest iteration of its micro-computing board, the Raspberry Pi Zero, has completely sold out after just 24 hours of being on sale.
Seriously – we wanted a photo-chop of Homer Simpson drooling over the Raspberry Pi Zero for this report.
Since the company started in 2012, millions of people have used Raspberry Pis to get their first taste of programming, but Raspberry Pi wanted to cut the price to entice more customers. But when Upton spoke to Schmidt in 2013, the Google executive was curious about what Raspberry Pi had in store for the future.
There are slots for a micro-SD card, a mini-HDMI socket for 1080p60 video output, and micro-USB sockets for data and power, giving developers and programmers a wide range of options when it comes to what to do with the device. It runs on the free operating system Raspbian, which is based on Linux, and is delivered with a few applications (Scratch, Minecraft and Sonic Pi).
“At the time of writing, Micro Center still has stock of the Zero itself, at $5”. Ten thousand Raspberry Pis are also being given away with the December issue of The MagPi magazine in the United Kingdom. “(We print in the United Kingdom and ocean freight the magazine to the U.S. to keep costs down, which takes a little while.) Again, we’ll let you know on Twitter and Facebook, and we’ll make sure that there’s a note at the top of the blog here on the day as well”, reads the Raspberry Pi blog.
