Letter addressed to ‘Your man Henderson’ somehow reaches intended target
The print on the front of the white envelope also said: “Your man Henderson”.
A postman in Donegal has hit the headlines after he managed to deliver a letter to its intended recipient in Buncrana.
The Donegal town has a population of about 7,000 people.
While things like postcodes and addresses are usually thought of as pretty much essential for letters to be delivered, it seems they’re not so important to the postmen and women of Donegal.
Apparently, a Donegal postman delivered it to the offices of the Irish Times while Roisin was out, asking whether the letter could possibly be for her husband. Meanwhile, his wife, Roisin, works as a journalist at the Irish Times.
The address on the letter was simply Buncrana, Co Donegall (spelled incorrectly with two ls!), Ireland.
Roisin Henderson told BBC Radio Foyle she thought the local postmen were “wonderful”.
The letter contained one thin slip of paper, on which was written – most likely in a nod to the fact the local postman managed to track down Barry despite having nearly nothing to go on – “If this has arrived, you live in a village”.
It all turned out to be a joke on the part of the sender.
The letter was sent by a friend of Mr Henderson, who is studying for a PhD in modern history at Queen’s University in Belfast, to prove just how small a place Buncrana really is.
