Gang members targeted 9-year-old boy shot in alley
But McCarthy also anxious that these gang members might kill anyone cooperating with police.
Police say the suspects, all part of the same gang, were out for retaliation for a previous murder of one of their own. “Who drove the vehicle, who was on the scene, Who pulled the trigger, is all being worked on”, McCarthy said.
Morgan is set to appear at a bond hearing on Friday afternoon.

The mother was shot and wounded, court papers said. Prosecutors said the SUV reappeared and followed Tyshawn and one of his murderers into the alley.
He said the boy’s killers approached him in a park where he was playing basketball with friends, spoke with him, and then walked him off into the alley. They have not yet recovered the gun used in the killing.
Chief Medical Examiner Stephen J. Cina, who performed the autopsy, found evidence of gunpowder burns on the side of Tyshawn’s face, an indication that the gunman fired one shot at close range, he wrote.
Mr McCarthy said locals had put aside fears of retribution to help tip off police about the crime.
Commissioner McCarthy believes 9-year-old Lee’s death was related to his father’s gang affiliations.
“Tyshawn Lee was failed on many levels but at the end of the day our detectives were unrelenting in the pursuit of justice”, he said.
As is the case in a number of other US cities, violence has risen in Chicago.
Investigators don’t know whether any of the men involved in his death knew the 9-year-old personally.
“This is a crime that shook our city”, city police superintendant Garry Mccarthy told reporters. “It’s a 9-year-old boy that was targeted and executed”. People are calling this execution death of a little boy a “new low” for violence riddled Chicago. “A baby was assassinated right behind us in the alley”.
Deronce Curd, a longtime resident of Auburn-Gresham, is struggling to come to grips with the thought of gangs killing kids.
When asked if Tyshawn’s dad was helpful in the investigation, the top cop said, “Not at all”.
Police earlier this week released dashcam video of the shooting and charged the police officer, Jason Van Dyke, with first-degree murder.
“We got an very bad lot of intelligence but no snitching”, McCarthy said. The other suspect, Kevin Edwards, is still at large and police are hunting for this man today.
McCarthy said police were looking for a third man and believed he was still in the area.
