LSU Coach Les Miles Staying At LSU?
If Saturday is Miles’ last game as the team’s head coach, LSU fans didn’t let him go without showing their appreciation. But as for his tenure at LSU, Miles gave no indication as to having any idea about his future.
Another likely factor is LSU’s incoming recruiting class. By many accounts, the Tigers have a top three recruiting class coming in next year and, if you were to get rid of the head coach and his staff who recruited these high schoolers, the nation’s top recruits could look elsewhere.
Les Miles continues to be LSU’s coach despite weeks of leaks and speculation that he would be fired once the Tigers’ season ended on Saturday. LSU’s administration has declined comment on Miles’ status, fueling speculation that his days roaming Death Valley’s home sideline are ending after 11 seasons. “How? Telegraph. [School president] King Alexander said, ‘I want you to be our coach”.
Still, Tigers receiver Malachi Dupre defended Miles’ record as a head coach.
For most the week leading up to the game, reports came out about school boosters willing to buyout Miles’ contract (approximately $15 million). That news has not sat well with LSU fans, who appear far more interested in firing Miles’ boss, athletic director Joe Alleva. He won the BCS National Championship during the 2007 season.
In an awesome scene following the win, Tigers players carried Miles off the field as the crowd chanted “Keep Les Miles!”. Brandon Harris was 7 of 21 for 83 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. There is clearly room for improvement offensively and Miles has been unable to capitalize on it. Another issue, especially prevalent this year, is LSU’s poor clock management and lack of discipline. Miles helped lead LSU to an 8-3 victory and a win over Texas A&M in the season finale.
LSU kicker Trent Domingue hit a 32-yard FG. Running back Tra Carson had 69 net yards on 19 carries, as the Aggies finished with 89 rushing yards as a team on 33 attempts.
It is hard to judge whether or not the massive fan support at Tiger Stadium tonight had any affect on the decision to keep or cut ties with Miles.
That allowed Texas A&M to take a 7-6 lead into halftime.
Texas A&M squandered a chance to widen its lead when Allen was sacked and stripped by Kendell Beckwith on the LSU 13, with the Tigers’ Devon Godchaux recovering.
