Women’s tennis earns ITA academic awards
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The USA Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Academic teams and Scholar Athletes of the Year today (July 17).
Indoor and Outdoor National Champions Central Missouri took the women’s All-Academic titles, led by Erika Kinsey and Brittany Kallenberger, who were named to two of the four female Scholar Athletes of the Year.
Ball State, Binghamton and Northern Illinois were the only three men’s tennis programs from the Mid-American Conference to receive the ITA All-Academic team honor.
To qualify as an ITA All-Academic Team the players have to have at least a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. The Nebraska men and women combined for 30 total individual awards to lead the nation.
The honor is the third straight for Prokhenvska and the first for Prokopuik. For individuals to be awarded, they must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and hit a national provisional mark. Orji, a native of Mount Olive, N.J., posted a 3.96 GPA in her Communication Studies major. As a whole, the men’s team placed four representatives on the Baylor Dean’s List and all 11 of its players on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
Edward Cheserek was named the Division I Indoor and Outdoor Track Scholar Athlete. The women’s team has earned academic recognition in nine of the last 10 years.
