Europa League: Bordeaux in the red
Klopp could not say whether Sturridge would be fit to be included in Sunday’s squad to face Swansea.
Jurgen Klopp appears to have calmed the frenzied speculation regarding Daniel Sturridge’s latest setback, stressing the need for Liverpool to remain patient with the injury-plagued striker as he bids to return to full fitness.
Liverpool are likely to be without joint leading scorer Philippe Coutinho due to a hamstring injury, while Daniel Sturridge is also expected to continue his injury absence after pulling out of a planned midweek comeback with a foot problem.
Klopp’s side welcome Swansea to Anfield on Sunday, eight days on from their impressive 4-1 victory at title-chasing Manchester City, which preceded a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bordeaux in the Europa League.
Sturridge has suffered from numerous injuries since joining Liverpool from Chelsea in January 2013, and has missed nearly as many matches as he has played in since that time.
“Daniel has very often been injured in the last few months and years”.
Meanwhile, Swansea City manager Garry Monk has dismissed reports he has three games to save his job after a poor run of results, saying he has the trust and support of chairman Huw Jenkins.
“Everyone wants him back on the pitch but we all have to learn”, said Klopp.
“Now we can say it’s not that serious, but it’s not possible [for him] to go on as before”. That’s completely normal after a long injury. “But we know the world is not ideal so we have to try the best and quickest way”.
“I can not think this like you because I have not been here that long”, he continued.
The Merseysiders last won successive league games at the start of the campaign when they beat Stoke and Bournemouth by 1-0 scorelines.
The 48-year-old admitted he has been a long-term admirer of Benteke’s talents and is confident he can emulate the likes of Lewandowski and Aubameyang if afforded the patience he considers rare in the Premier League. If we want to be a great team then our home form has to be good. “But there is no news – at the moment we have to wait”.
“It’s normal when you get back in training”. “I’m not sure how he’s worked behind the scenes but in front of the cameras and the way he is, he’s very personable”.
