Salvation Army seeks volunteers this holiday season
Hundreds of people showed up at the Salvation Army in Fort Smith to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal in a warm environment.
Salvation Army leader Lieutenant Mark Godwin, said: “This year has been a special year for The Salvation Army and we are looking forward to the opportunity to celebrate our Christian faith by holding the Christmas concert”. The Salvation Army and AmeriCorps volunteers worked around the clock to get everything ready.
The mysterious generosity that has fed Salvation Army red kettles in the form of new $100 bills has re-emerged this Christmas season in the Twin Cities.
A chance to get in the holiday spirit and help needy families, making a difference this Christmas season.
“The bell ringers will be out every day starting Friday at Wal-Mart, and they will be in front of Jewel on weeknights”, said Eric Fisher, We Care of Grundy County executive director.
Major Pam Waugh joined Paul Henry to discuss what the organisation is doing and how you can help them. It is a chance to help lift the spirits of people with a holiday greeting. “So the more volunteers we have, the more we have to go into our program funds”.
Nelson said the Salvation Army’s fundraising goal in Central Louisiana is $300,000. “We don’t have nobody to call…we just got each other”.
“Each year, in addition to the work carried out in the community, The Salvation Army runs a Christmas Present Appeal to ensure no child goes without a gift at Christmas”.
Forty-five people volunteered their time to serving these meals and they say that the happiness it brings the recipients makes it worth it in the end. “It helps pay for all of social services”.
She said her family’s first year volunteering at the Salvation Army’s Community Thanksgiving Dinner was going well.
“There’s a lot of people in this world that don’t have as much as we do”. Those are times when people tend to give less, but the need is still there. Parents are able to “shop” for their child’s gift, and also receive a food box with the ingredients for a Christmas dinner.
