Black Lives Matter activists shot in Minneapolis
Seattle DOT officials are warning of continued downtown traffic impacts during the protest. They carried signs decrying racism and police brutality. Another man in the house was arrested and guns were recovered.
One officer suffered a dislocated shoulder and needed medical attention after protesters interfered with an arrest at Pacific Place.
Protesters blocked the intersection of Lake Ave. and Superior St.in Duluth Friday evening.
In Cincinnati, Interim Police Chief Eliot Isaac met with protesters and answered questions.
Once in place, a line of police stood silently in front of the mall’s doors as protesters chanted, “Racist police have got to go”.
Some of the tensest moments came when the surging crowd confronted cordons of police outside the malls.
Protesters could also be seen confronting police and trying to force their way inside Westlake Center. Protesters then infiltrated the crowd headed for the tree lighting ceremony back at Westlake Park. Their chants competed with the music on stage.
“After what happened in Chicago, there have been a response around the country since these shootings have happened, especially the shooting in Minneapolis against the protestors who were occupying”, said chief organizer Brian Taylor.
Minneapolis police say one man is dead and another is in custody after a shooting at a home in north Minneapolis.
“It’s kind of not necessary for the holidays”, Jamie Young of Kent said of the protest.
Marge Alden, who was giving miniature horse rides to families as part of the Church Street celebration, said she appreciates the issues the activists raised.
Black Lives Matter demonstrations have recently swept through the country in the wake of the shootings in Chicago and Minneapolis. “It’s like a movie, right?” she said. Protesters made their way around the entire perimeter inside the department store before exiting onto the street to head east towards the rear entrance of the Westlake mall, where things got seriously unsafe.
