Eskimos take home 103rd Grey Cup with win over RedBlacks
A football fan is seen prior to the 103rd Grey Cup between the Edmonton Eskimos and the Ottawa Redblacks, in Winnipeg, Man., on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015.
The Redblacks, in just their sophomore season, are looking to become just the second team since the CFL played at least 12-game schedule to win the Grey Cup after winning two games or less the previous season. Akeem Shavers hauled in the two-point convert pass from Reilly to make it a six point edge.
Edmonton’s Mike Reilly outplayed his counterpart, throwing for 269 yards and a pair of scores while adding 66 yards on the ground.
The Eskimos won their 14th Grey Cup, but their first since 2005.
The trio say they have been a bit put off by the “pro-Ottawa” sentiment in Winnipeg but that’s not enough to dampen their spirits. The city’s last CFL championship came in 1976 with the former Rough Riders. “I call time out and I said, ‘Look at this because it’s too big a situation and if it is, then we need to throw a flag.’ So that’s how it transpired”. The 40-year-old was nothing short of brilliant this year, registering a league-record 481 completions while being the leading passer (5,703 yards). “They found ways to make plays and to get us off the field …”
The game didn’t start well for Edmonton. “However, in response to concerns raised, and as the game is meant to be at played at a neutral site, the touchdown celebration that normally occurs at Redblacks’ home games will not be allowed between kickoff and the final gun”.
“We will watch this over and over and over again this off-season and make sure we remember this”, Burris said. The game will also be streamed on TSN GO for TSN Subscribers. Despite having the ball for 10 minutes in the third quarter, Edmonton was outscored 3-1 as Ottawa took a 19-18 advantage into the fourth.

Adarius Bowman and Shavers scored Edmonton’s touchdowns.
Will the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player Henry Burris lead the Redblacks to victory? The point after attempt failed and the Eskimos led 17-16 at halftime.
“I can tell you this, it won’t be anything that we haven’t done before”, he said. Edmonton would fumble on the ensuing drive handing the ball right back to Ottawa.
