Adele has bestselling album of 2015 with over 300000 copies sold
Adele’s comeback album – 25 – has sold a record-breaking 3.38 million copies in its first week on sale in the USA, according to Nielsen Music data. However, Billboard notes that since 25 was released on a Thursday, Adele achieved her new record in only three days. And on October 23, 2015, we were rewarded with the heady, succulent single “Hello”, which according to the Times “shot to No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart and has not budged since”. Her previous album, “21”, has sold 11.2 million copies – the 10th most in American music history.
It is also the first album in Nielsen history to sell more than three million copies in a week.
Clearly, Adele is simply in another stratosphere when it comes to selling albums.
The British star notched up the biggest single sales for an album since Nielsen began tracking sales.
Fans were extremely eager for “25” to hit shelves, as it had been almost five years since Adele released new music.
By comparison, every release in 2015 looks limp compared to Adele sales. In comparison, 25 sold around 60,000 physical copies alone in this opening week. In fact, it sold more copies than the next 86 albums on the United Kingdom albums chart combined.
Adele has never faltered in the delivery of the raw emotion of her songs and songwriting, but “Sweetest Devotion” displays a feeling nearly everyone can relate to. Adele has out sold artist such as Britney Spears, Eminem, Lady Gaga, and Whitney Houston who have all had albums debuted at over 1 million copies. For the vast majority of the rest of the industry, which won’t be selling many albums anyway, streaming services drive exposure which leads to ticket sales, sponsorship, and a better chance of building a career.
