Seattle leans on its offense to beat Pittsburgh 39-30
“Just the passion of the game”. “The fire that they all brought”.
“I’m always going to play, no matter what the circumstances are”. They are now 6-5 and can eye a playoff berth. Baldwin became the first Seahawks receiver to have three receiving touchdowns in one game since Joey Galloway, who had a three-touchdown game in 1997. Baldwin broke free for an 80-yard touchdown and the clinching score. It came on third-and-10 with 2 minutes left, when a Steelers’ stop might have sent the Seahawks back under.500.
Baldwin wanted to give a “shout-out” to teammate Tyler Lockett. And as a bitter side note, losing the Steelers and Patriots wrapped up my first 0-5 week in National Football League handicapping since 2012. The last time he caught two: December 23, 2012 against San Francisco.
No drop. No miss. Following a 39-30 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, they won’t be any more.
Despite all that offense though, the game came down to two decisions. It was only during his stint with Seattle this year that he was bound to miss all games after the 10th game.
It came in front of a record crowd at CenturyLink Field on Sunday.
“It is kind of an unorthodox way to play and win … but that’s what we had to do today”, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said.
And the Seahawks needed every one of them just to peek over the. Seattle had things go their way immediately again. The star defensive end went on to say that the “social injustice” now is the same as it was in 1960, 1940 and 1920.
But he had to be helped up by his Steelers’ linemen after a helmet-to-helmet hit on third down extended Pittsburgh’s next-to-last drive with Seattle leading 32-27.
In fact, the defense was able to get off the field on its first two drives on the Seahawks’ first two plays on third down.
Plays of the day: + For pure eye-popping appeal, Martavis Bryant’s 11-yard TD on a reverse would be hard to beat.
Pittsburgh threw more than five passes to its top five receivers in the game whereas Seattle only gave three players five or more targets.
“I don’t guard small receivers well, so I don’t know what I did well”, Sherman said when asked about his defense on Brown. The Seahawks won 39-30. The Steelers then shifted into a formation that had Jones in a deep shotgun formation. Even without Bell, DeAngelo Williams has done a sufficient job at holding down the fort in the backfield. Ben Roethlisberger completed 6-of-8 for 43 yards, and the Steelers converted 1-of-2 third downs to take a lead with 5:27 remaining in the first period.
It didn’t last long.
The reward for Wilson’s effort was finally getting Seattle above the. “We’ve got to get tighter”. That essentially ended Seattle’s chances for a third consecutive NFC West title. That 147.9 passer rating is a career best over a two-game span.
“Whenever his back is against the wall is when he plays his best”, Baldwin said of Wilson.
“You can see his focus is sharper”, Baldwin said, adding that it’s not as if Wilson wasn’t focused before. So, Wilson hung in the pocket and burned the secondary downfield.
The Steelers rolled up 249 yards in the first half, 206 on Roethlisberger passes off of scrambles and extended plays.
Typically a sign of controlling the game, the Steelers’ advantage here is a little misleading. Gronkowski injured his right knee late in the fourth quarter of New England’s 30-24 overtime loss at Denver, and was writhing in pain before he was taken off the field. Down five points with just three minutes to play, Mike Tomlin elected to kick a field goal that was freaky not only for its strategic value at that point in the game, but because Tomlin had been extremely aggressive with a fake field goal in the first half. After the resulting punt, Pittsburgh took over from the 16 yard line. Seattle led 7-3 with 12:18 left in the second quarter.
This remarkable game was on.
Suddenly, Seattle’s offense is picking up the defense.
But this time, three fourth-quarter touchdowns saved the season for the Seahawks.
Not after the biggest game of his scrapping, determined, five-year career. Its quarterback, however, was not going to let that happen.
