Cyber Monday vs. Black Friday: Why shoppers are ditching the lines
Thanksgiving – AKA Black Friday Eve – is nearly here. More shoppers than ever are ditching the long lines to spend from home. You’ll simply find slightly different TVs, computers, headphones and smartwatches to replace the ones that expired on Black Friday.
“It’s the adrenaline of it. Waiting in line waiting for the freaking store to open up”, said Tracey McCoy.
Back in the day, Americans spent hours fighting traffic, crowds and sore feet in order to tackle their Holiday shopping list.
But not everyone shares that feeling.
We’ve got two major events going on: Cyber Monday and Black Friday. Numerous best deals will not actually be advertised beforehand. “You don’t have to go through all the hassle and all that craziness”, said Jonathan Torres. Sam’s Club’s has concluded its Black Friday sale, and on erlier this week the retailer has announced all the details for its massive Cyber Monday 2015 and Cyber Week sales. In fact, the Monday after Thanksgiving generated almost $2.04 billion in online sales last year, up 17% from the previous year according to research firm comScore Inc. This should help in showing which of your favorite shops are participating and what deals they are offering.
“We see store-based retailers enhancing their online presence”, said Steven Barr, U.S. retail and consumer leader for audit firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The name “Cyber Monday” was coined in 2005 by the National Retail Federation’s online arm, called Shop.org, to encourage people to shop online.
“I think everyone that does online shopping, that is the reason, you don’t have to deal with the crowds”. More and more, holiday shopping is done online.
And, he said, “This generation, the millennials, are influencing shopping behaviors of higher generations more so than any generation I can recall”.
The benefits to shopping online don’t end with comfort and being able to compare other deals from the couch.
