About 147 heads of states and representatives are attending the conference, including US President Barrack Obama, Chinese President Xi Jinping, French President Francois Hollande and British Prime Minister David Cameroon.
The exact details of the talks were not known but there is expectation here that it will help to ease tensions between the two nations after the planned meeting of their national security advisors was cancelled in August.
According to Geo News, Sharif during the meeting told Modi that “we want peace without any compromise on the dignity and honour of Pakistan”.
PM Nawaz Sharif reciprocated PM Modi’s welcome gesture with these words: “Pakistan desires peaceful co-existence with neighbours”. “Obviously, if they pass each other, diplomatic courtesy is essential, they ought to smile at each other, they ought to shake hands and say hello to each other, and if that happened, it’s a good thing”, he added.
Monday’s meeting also comes at a time when the Indian cricket board is awaiting permission from the government to hold a bilateral cricket series with Pakistan at the neutral venue of Sri Lanka tentatively scheduled for mid-December.
