Shoppers support Small Business Saturday
Saturday, shoppers got out to support local businesses on Shop Small Saturday. It’s the fifth year American’s have been encouraged to support small local businesses on what’s typically the busiest shopping weekend of the Christmas season. “They are trying to make a living and they care about their community and the money stays in their community and that is so important”, said Marie Jones of Scranton.
Dee and Mee Hobbies store owner Rick Zeller believes small businesses give consumers more bang for their buck. “A lot of the money that’s spent in our shop gets spread throughout the community, so it’s a spread the wealth type of situation”. “I’d rather do Cyber Monday”, said Gary Trump, small business shopper.
“If you focus on doing the right things for your customers, profit will follow”, said David.
An event in Ballard brought local food tucks, breweries and shops together.
Small Business owners are hoping anyone who hasn’t gotten their holiday shopping fix yet will do so today on this Small Business Saturday. “I think that you will find that you get better service here, at least that’s our goal”.
American Express Credit Card Company launched the Small Business Saturday initiative.
“You don’t know what’s downtown until you’ve been here”, Brenda Miller said of Eau Claire.
Small Business Saturday is a great way to skip the crowds at the big box stores and also helps generate economic success in the community.
“It’s just really exciting every time a new small business opens”.
This year Governor Sandoval issued a proclamation declaring November 28th as ‘Small Business Saturday in Nevada.’ It started nationwide six years ago to help mom and pop shops in fierce competition for holiday shoppers.
“I love seeing these shops here”, said Brozek.
