Ole Miss Rebels v. Mississippi State Bulldogs football game today
Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott (15) passes against Mississippi in the first half of an NCAA college football game in Starkville, Miss., Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015. Ole Miss dictated the terms of its visit by forcing early turnovers, turning them into points and jetting out to a 21-0 lead.
The win served as Ole Miss’ first in Starkville since 2003 and was just the second victory by a visiting team in the last 12 Egg Bowls. Quarterback Chad Kelly and the Rebels are coming off an upset victory over conference rival LSU by a dominant 38-17 final score.
Ole Miss went three-and-out on its first possession out of halftime, a series in which it lost 1 yard, something that seemed to breathe life into the Bulldogs.
Their 36-yard touchdown between Kelly and Stringfellow early in the second quarter gave the Rebels a 28-3 lead. They would extend that lead to 21-0 before the Bulldogs would make a field goal.
Kelly threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score to lead No. 19 Mississippi over No. 23 Mississippi State 38-27 at Davis Wade Stadium.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Bulldogs are 1-point home underdogs versus the Rebels while the total now sits at 63.5 points after the number opened at 64. Through the air, he hooked up with Damore’ea Stringfellow on a two-yard touchdown later in the quarter. The Rebels applied pressure on Prescott throughout the game, collecting seven sacks. No. 2 Alabama clinched the Western Division title instead with a 29-13 win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
The Rebels now look likely to end up either in the Sugar Bowl for the the first time since 1970 or the Citrus Bowl for the first time.
The victory also wiped away what had been an ugly stretch of football in Starkville. But when game time came, Ole Miss ruined the night by shutting him down in the first quarter and climbing to an insurmountable lead.
