North Iowa under winter storm warning
In South Dakota, totals of over 16 inches were reported. The heaviest snow will be in southwestern Minnesota.
Areas of the Midwest such as Kansas are expected to get above freezing as the week progresses, though northern states are in for snow.
Precipitation is still possible throughout the day in Lincoln, although with temperatures hovering at the freezing mark, snow accumulation will turn into a slushy mix, forecasters said. The watch covers much of eastern South Dakota, central and most of southern Minnesota, the northwest quarter of Iowa and much of eastern Nebraska.
At least two Metro Transit buses spun out and 30 miles of traffic on Interstate 94 from Hudson, Wis., to downtown Minneapolis was moving at a crawl, or not moving at all.
Warnings sometimes can be issued for specific hazards… like ice storm warnings…
Some freeways and ramps were ice covered, with reports of several trucks not able to negotiate the ice on uphill exit ramps. This will affect commutes for Monday afternoon rush hour and Tuesday.
Eastern Nebraska is under a winter storm warning today with a winter weather advisory in place for the central region. Aside from forecasting the weather, he participated in storm chasing.
