Chicago Student Arrested After Bringing Handgun and Ammunition to High School
A male student was arrested today after a gun was reported at Barrington High School.
A northwest suburban high school is on a hard lockdown Monday morning because of “suspicious activity” in the building. No shots were fired and no one was hurt during the incident, according to the Chicago Tribune. Police said Barrington High School was placed on lockdown as a precaution after a subject was taken into custody. The student allegedly had a handgun and a magazine with several bullets.
School officials say all students and staff were kept in their classrooms during the lockdown and were safe. From there Messore says the school’s resource officer quickly got the Barrington Police Department involved. “The teacher did exactly what he was supposed to do in reporting it to the police and to the school administrators, so we responded immediately”, said Barrington Police Chief Dave Dorn.
Lyles said parents were notified with an automated telephone call. Grounsell said he is not sure why the gun was brought to school or what made the student turn himself in.
