Chelsea about the team, not just Costa – Ivanovic
“He is privileged I kept him in the team so long”.
He said: “The captain has been on the bench, so has Ivanovic, Cahill the vice-captain of England, Fabregas, Pedro, Oscar, Hazard – who is the player of the season”. I was not expecting to have a player jumping and singing because he was not playing. “We start the season as a team and we have to finish as a team”.
“I think we deserved more in a very hard game”. He was ready to play when we he went to warm up.
“I think we are accomplished enough to say we can win any game”. It’s all about the team. We wanted to show our character and show how good we are.
But it was Chelsea and Hazard, playing as the lone striker in place of Costa, who had the best opportunity of the first half. After warming up on the touchline until injury time, Costa returned to the bench once he realised he was not coming on to play.
“Everybody was on the bench”.
“I always had a lot of confidence in myself”, said Dembele. “I know where I made mistakes and I will do everything in the future to not repeat that”.
It follows consecutive wins over Norwich City and Maccabi Tel Aviv for Chelsea, and the overall nature of their performance gave their coach encouragement.
“We have to feel happy”.
“[Today] Eden could play the 90 minutes and was so good and risky for us, I felt he could have scored a goal”.
The Brazil-born Spanish worldwide has endured a horrid start to the new season scoring just four goals in 17 appearances. We are very happy with a third clean sheet in three games. “We are going that way”. Mourihno then went on to suggest that Ozil, a player he worked with at Real Madrid, is the better of the two players in the position. We all know what he’s capable of and he not moving anywhere near as much. I believe that Costa would be more effective.
Tottenham are unbeaten in the league since the opening-day defeat by Manchester United and sit fifth, 10 points ahead of Chelsea.
Pochettino had described the noon kick-off as a “joke” following Thursday night’s 2,500-mile flight from Azerbaijan, where his side were in Europa League action.
Asked if he was happy with a draw, in light of the journey to Baku, Pochettino said: “No, not really happy”.
