Raiders-Titans featuring Derek Carr
The Titans’ DaQuan Jones hopped on it, and Tennessee (2-9) grabbed a 21-17 lead nine plays later on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Mariota to Jalston Fowler.
Although most people would agree that quarterback Derek Carr is having his breakout season this year, he still has lessons to learn and the Detroit Lions taught him that last week.
The Raiders were flagged 11 times for 94 yards, with two of those penalties keeping Tennessee TD drives alive, and Carr himself set up the Titans’ go-ahead TD by fumbling a snap. They are trying to scheme up speed sweeps to get the ball in Kendall Wright’s hands to pray that he can make something happen.
Cornerback David Amerson said, “It’s definitely a time when guys are starting to realize that we’re getting into desperate needs now”. The game pivoted on that fourth-down play, and the Raiders caught a break they haven’t gotten in the last month. He went from losing a Super Bowl in February 2013 to a franchise that has just 11 wins in his tenurer, and Walker said the losing is tiring, especially for an offensive captain.
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Seth Roberts (10) celebrates after catching a 12-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter against the Tennessee Titans to give the Raiders a 24-21 win in an NFL football game Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, in Nashville, Tenn.
“One thing about this game, it has valleys and peaks”, Cooper said.
The losing may be a running joke with fans, but for the players, it is a monkey they would just as soon get off their backs. Over the past two weeks, the Raiders have scored a total of 27 points after scoring 30 or more in three straight games. “But then I get upset because I try to go out there and play as best as I can and we still lose”.
Detroit had success last week attacking Raiders CBs DJ Hayden and TJ Carrie on short passes. With some key pieces returning to the roster, the Titans should have a better chance to beat the Raiders. They’re now 4-6 straight up and 5-5 against the spread, with a 3-2 ATS mark on the road this season.
Playing in a driving rainstorm in the second half, the Titans were working on an impressive comeback before Marcus Mariota threw an interception to Raiders safety Nate Allen, allowing the Raiders to escape with a 24-21 win.
Titans head coach Mike Mularkey did not like the call saying, “we felt like we had overcome something we haven’t and again, the one call is is the call”.
“The Raiders threw up a prayer on fourth-and-8 with two minutes to play, throwing a deep ball to double-covered Andre Holmes in the end zone that was knocked away”. Additionally, Brian Orakpo, Wesley Woodyard, Jurrell Casey, and Avery Williamson each recorded a sack on Blake Bortles.
Maybe giving tight end Delanie Walker a go against the Raiders is a good idea. Tennessee has the home field.
I feel as though I keep writing the same thing week after week; Perhaps that may have to do with the fact that the Raider defense faces the same question every Sunday.
