GOP leader defends House Planned Parenthood investigation
Politicians and others who speak about what taxpayer-supported Planned Parenthood does are contributing to a “negative environment” that encourages some people to target the abortion provider, a Planned Parenthood executive said on Sunday.
Planned Parenthood workers aren’t allowed to even assess the damage until after the investigation is complete.
Returning to Washington after Thanksgiving break on Monday, some Democrats more forcefully called for ending the committee, which was formed by House Republicans after the release of a series of undercover videos accusing Planned Parenthood of selling aborted fetuses’ organs and tissues.
Among the most notable – and debated – statements made about Planned Parenthood in recent months was that of GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina, who at a recent presidental debate said in reference to the videos, “Anyone who has watched this video tape – I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, to watch these tapes”.
A conservative Florida group has postponed a rally to protest government funding for Planned Parenthood following a shooting spree at a clinic in Colorado.
Reports indicated he said “no more baby parts” as he was taken into custody.
Fiorina managed to get twofers for this little horror show she created: attacking people at a Planned Parenthood center and supporting the National Rifle Association’s belief that guns do not kill people. They say the boy used a hatchet to destroy computers, plumbing fixtures, phones and medical equipment inside the clinic.
Republican Mike Huckabee agreed that what the gunman did “is domestic terrorism”.
“I don’t know any pro-life leader, any – if you can tell me one, please correct me – I don’t know of anybody that suggested violence toward Planned Parenthood personnel or some act of violence toward their clinics”.
McCarthy also said that after the terror attacks in Paris, “security is becoming the top issue” that he hears about from GOP colleagues.
The clinics deny the charges, contending that the state altered its definition of a first trimester in order to justify the administrative actions.
“Obviously the Planned Parenthood folks want to rise up and say we wouldn’t have a shooting if it wasn’t for the mean folks who are talking about defunding Planned Parenthood”.
“Literally we don’t know”.
Robert Lewis Dear, who acquaintances have called a loner, is accused of killing three people in the Colorado attack.
“Of course what happened in Colorado only further heightens that”, Scott said, adding the downtown location of the clinic puts it in an area frequented by police.
