Tennessee Titans-Oakland Raiders
Tennessee (2-8) started promising with rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota continuing his college completion percentage success in the NFL.
Raiders safety Charles Woodson is eager to see how Carr rebounds.
On defensive, Dick LeBeau will dial up the heat to pressure QB David Carr and force inaccurrate throws against the Titans’ maned Secondary. Particularly maddening against Detroit was the failure of some reasonable third-down situations, which led to only 23:58 worth of possession time. There appeared to be some miscommunication on the play between Mariota and his intended receiver, as the ball ended up floating nowhere near any Titans receiver. The Raiders got key contributions from a lot of different guys when they absolutely, positively had to have it. And instead of going into next week’s showdown with the Chiefs knowing they’re doing nothing more than playing out the string, the Raiders will head into next week’s game against the Chiefs looking to build on the momentum they built today and to continue nurturing those postseason hopes. Hayden ranks 106th at his position, per John Glennon of the Tennessean.
After missing four games because of an ankle injury, Jackson had a 50-yard interception return during the Texans’ victory over the Saints. Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo has seven sacks, including at least one in each of the past four games.
Even the announcing team on CBS pointed out that the Titans should run the ball more and use the play-action for big chunks. Sacks will not come easily though.
NASHVILLE – The first play went to Amari Cooper.
BY THE NUMBERS: 10 – Number of games lost in a row by the Titans at home since past year.
Tennessee, meanwhile, hasn’t won a game at home since October 12, 2014 (over the Jaguars of all teams).
Overall, the defense held Tennessee to 249 yards of total offense and just three of 12 third down conversions. 241 of which came exclusively from Marcus Mariota. The second most yards for a receiver that night? A quarterback with a little bit of experience certainly helped. “It’s just one of those things that happens”. He did it Sunday in his 159th game, the fourth fewest games in National Football League history to reach the 40,000-yard plateau…
But coming off consecutive outstanding performances against San Diego, the New York Jets and Pittsburgh, Carr threw two interceptions in a 30-14 loss to Minnesota and passed for just 169 yards in an 18-13 loss to a two-win Detroit team. “We go out there and compete, and we keep our offense in the game”.
Quarterback M. Mariota has a ranking above 90.
Like Carr, who played for both Dennis Allen and Tony Sparano as a rookie, Mariota began the season with Ken Whisenhunt at coach, who gave way to Mike Mularkey. Wright has missed the past three games, but is supposed to be on track to play this Sunday against the Raiders.
After Mariota opened scoring with a 20-yard scoring strike to tight end Craig Stevens with 5:53 left in the first quarter, Carr found Crabtree for a 7-yard touchdown pass at the 1:34 mark for a 7-6 Oakland lead.
