Jose Aldo to get hands on Conor McGregor
The feat has been employed by Conor McGregor as he prepares to go head-to-head with Jose Aldo in UFC 194, the next UFC event after the huge Ronda Rousey-Holly Holm contest in Melbourne earlier this month.
The featherweight division is still a relatively new platform to the UFC compared with its longer-standing weight classes, but a fixture between Aldo and McGregor promises to publicise this sector like never before. But in his interview with Severe MMA, he gave the assurance that he would not and that he would definitely be there. But if you ask Conor McGregor, that will all be because of him.
McGregor’s latest slight to the featherweight champion is that those watching the fight on December 12 won’t care if Aldo is on the card, as long as they get to see the Irishman.
Leaving Ireland today for the West Coast. I am not a company man. I am the company. And with the queen of the UFC now dethroned by the Preacher’s Daughter, Dana White and Co. need a star to show up more than ever.
Aldo pulled out of the pair’s scheduled UFC 189 fight with a rib injury two weeks prior to fight night, which saw Chad Mendes step in and get knocked out by McGregor in the second round.
Conor McGregor has played off that heavily in the lead-up to their fight by saying things like “In the jungle, when a king gets old, a young gorilla comes up and takes everything he owns”.
Both fighters bring venomous striking to the bout, but while McGregor’s last four consecutive wins have come via knockout, Aldo has triumphed in his most recent two matches via decision. But equally as prolific as his title defenses are his penchant to withdraw from them due to injury.
Stop claiming Conor McGregor as your own, America, he’s our interim UFC featherweight champion!
