PSY to release first album since “Gangnam Style” success
“Daddy” is the first single off of Psy’s latest album “Chiljip PSY-Da”, which means “This Is PSY’s Seventh Album” in Korean. It’s his first album since 2012, when the single Gangnam Style swept the world and made him a global superstar. Then it broke YouTube, and the site had to reconfigure its view counter to accommodate the number of times it had been watched. Like “Gangnam Style”, the freaky video showcases Psy performing some incredibly odd but energetic dance moves, this time however, dressed not just as himself, but rather as a little boy and an old man. The song, which features fellow K-pop star CL, is sort of a reverse tribute to will.i.am’s “I Got It From My Mama”.
The AP also reports that the new album will include multiple genres, including hip-hop and punk. “I got it from my daddy”. Very similar to Gangnam Style, the catchy tune may carry the video still it’s the swift scenes and a number of other things happening within the same frame in that keeps the viewer’s attention.
Chiljip PSY-Da comes out December 1.
In a press conference for the album, PSY said he felt a lot of pressure to live up to the success of “Gangnam Style”.
He also said during the press conference, “It took too long [for me to release new music]”.
Sadly, CL isn’t featured enough in “Daddy”, because she makes some insane music videos herself.
“There were many thoughts going around in my head, including thoughts like, ‘If I write like this, it would be not as good as ‘Gangnam Style, ‘ and ‘If I write like this, the worldwide audience will not understand, ‘” he said.
“That’s what I call a real ARTIST”, one viewer wrote.
