Pennsylvania police officer killed after responding to domestic dispute
Ray Allen Shetler Jr., a man who was reported for domestic dispute, shot and killed a Pennsylvania police officer who responded to a call over the attack.
Limani said police don’t know whether Shetler aimed the gun at the officer.
Authorities had earlier warned residents in the area to lock the doors and windows of their homes and vehicles while Shetler was at large.
Police say the woman involved in the domestic incident suffered minor injuries. Another officer also shot at Shetler, who ran away after allegedly shooting Reed and was found by police hours later. State police said Shetler was being guarded while undergoing treatment and an arrest warrant would be obtained on Sunday. Reed, who had been an officer for more than 20 years, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf ordered flags dropped to half-staff on all state buildings. As communities publicly mourn the loss of their public servants, some have called for renewed protections, citing increased threats to officers in uniform following a spate of anti-police demonstrations across the country.
Officer Reed fell to the ground when he was hit, Ms. Luther told police.
Porter, 51, said she is trying to find out more details surrounding the shooting.
She said police have not allowed any family members to visit Shetler to try to determine how the shooting unfolded.
Checks should note: “Donation for Lloyd Reed Jr”. They were not permitted to see him, she said, when they went to the hospital where he was undergoing treatment for a gunshot wound. That is located at 337 Winners Circle in Canonsburg, PA.
