Broncos Hand Patriots First Loss
Osweiler did the rest, leading the Broncos (9-2) back from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to hand New England its first loss. The result was electric.
Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski injured his right knee with 2:49 left in regulation and was carted off. There was no immediate word on his status.
“It was a check that we had worked on all week in practice”, Osweiler said.
“I was just trying to dislodge the ball”, insisted Stewart. It was a check we had worked on in practice all week.
Anderson shook free from a couple of Patriots defenders en route to the decisive score. “When I saw him in the open field, I knew he was gone”. And the fans went insane. “That was the wildest I’ve seen this place in a long time”. ESPN footage showed Gronkowski walking from the X-ray room to the Patriots’ locker room with a slight limp. Basically, he’s doing a great job with his opportunity, but the thing that Brock is doing the best, in my opinion, is understanding that he’s on a good football team. It always hurts to lose. It had had it since 2006 when it got the rights to Sunday Night Football.
Anderson touchdown and the Patriots’ first loss of the season. Denver took the lead with 90 seconds remaining in the game and Tom Brady being Tom Brady drove the field to set up the tying field goal with four seconds. And it’s certainly not to leave it up to a call here or a call there or one player.
Let’s check out some of the notable players and stats from this game so we can figure out why things played out the way they did.
George Stockburger: Personally I see both sides to this. They have a one-game lead over Cincinnati and Denver for home-field advantage through the playoffs, but the Broncos now hold the tiebreaker. When the Patriots went 16-0 back in 2007, the defense left a lot to be desired, and they never truly learned because they never lost.
STANDINGS WATCH: This was the toughest test left on New England’s schedule. He finished with 113 yards and 2 touchdowns. Two plays later, Osweiler found Emmanuel Sanders down the left sideline for a 39-yard completion down to the 8-yard-line. The Broncos did. They shut the Pats down on the first series of the extra period, then took over at their 43.
Though Osweiler is still working on his chemistry with some of the Broncos’ top receivers, most notably Demaryius Thomas, he heated up as the game went on. Though the New England offense has stalled in recent weeks without running back Dion Lewis, receiver Julian Edelman and receiver Danny Amendola, Gronkowski remains the single most important offensive weapon for quarterback Tom Brady.
In the second, the Patriots made it 14-0 with a Scott Chandler TD catch from nine yards out.
NOTES: Broncos OLB DeMarcus Ware missed a third straight game with a back injury.
