Police in CT and Florida are unable to locate Katie Brown
The woman, identified as Katie Brown, whose real name is Katharine Lemansky, formerly of South Daytona, FL, and now of Avon, CT, posted the picture on her public Facebook page on Friday. Brown wrote in the caption. “We have information to indicate that the dog is OK at this time”, the statement said.
Calls from around the nation and around the world came in to the Police Department of the City of South Daytona, supposedly where Brown lives.
The investigation has been turned over to the Avon Police Department in Connecticut, Dietrich said.
We’re reaching out to Brown for comment. Brown for days was defiant, insisting it was no big deal and that she had only left the tape on the dogs for a minute, as if that made it OK.
Following a barrage of calls from concerned animal lovers, Avon police investigated an address associated with Brown’s family but quickly determined the incident did not occur there. The dog, she assured investigators, is fine and in good health.
After discovering Brown was out of state with the dog, they wrote on their Facebook page: “Police will be contacting this person once she returns to our city”. Torrington Police, who are not investigating, have said she was in Torrington on Thursday for Thanksgiving, but the incident happened in Avon. “I mean the postings on Facebook were accusing us [of] supporting animal cruelty, which clearly we do not support”, said Martha Hickey, who co-owns Doggie in the Window with her sister, Ellen. All new, and pertinent information that we get is being immediately forward to Daytona PD as that is where the suspect is believed to be living/heading. But it doesn’t matter to the people on the Polk Pet Page on Facebook…who took it upon themselves to call the police.
“We’ve been working on it most of the day in conjunction with South Daytona police department in Florida and also with Avon police”, said Torrington Sgt. Gerald Peters.
“Again, thank you all for your concern”. We are still following leads.
In an update from the City of South Daytona on Monday, they are still looking for Lemansky and are unsure where she is.
