Jeremy Clarkson unveils Amazon drone
“Sense and avoid” technology helps to deviate from any potential obstacles on the ground and in the air on the way to the drone’s delivery destination.
Amazon is seeking to get as much mileage as possible out of new star-signing Jeremy Clarkson, with the former Top Gear presenter fronting an ad unveiling a new hybrid drone that could see deliveries made to customers’ backyards. “The look and characteristics of the vehicles will evolve over time”.
Amazon didn’t announce a time frame for the service.
The video shows the box containing the shoes ordered by the family fitting seamlessly into the body of the drone.
What was once only science fiction is what Amazon is now trying to make into reality – the future of online shopping delivery service. The drone drops off a package on a placard with Amazon’s logo on it that the family placed in its yard.
Amazon says that the 55-pound flying machine will be able to deliver any online order weighing up to 5 pounds, which includes everything from a child’s new set of sneakers to a downsized UPS driver’s antidepressant medication.
The company has been developing drone prototypes and lobbying to create public policy that will allow it to test and ultimately roll out a fleet of drones in the United States.
When the drone approaches its landing site, it notifies the buyers and searches for an Amazon landing marker.
