Nepal fuel shortage sparks protest over blockade
He said that if Nepal had any problem with the way India behaves or with its “micromanagement” then New Delhi should introspect on the issue.
Madhesis have been protesting over the new Constitution, which they allege is discriminatory to their rights.
“Our strike is against India’s blockade and its intervention in Nepal’s internal affairs”, the party said in a statement.
Nepal is reeling under severe fuel crisis and shortage of essentials, including medicine, as the Madhesi parties launched agitation three months ago to protest against the new constitution, which demarcate the country into seven provinces joining some of the southern Nepal’s plain districts with hilly regions, an idea strongly opposed by the Madhesi leaders.
Kathmandu, Nov. 27 (ANI): Expressing concern over growing “anti- India” sentiment in Nepal, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae on Friday said, “We sense that this is being used for certain objective – political or otherwise”.
At least 50 people have been killed in the protests since August. India imposed a similar blockade as Nepal removed the Indian military posts from the Nepali territory in 1969. Schools were closed for more than two weeks before Diwali as a result of fuel shortage. There is no official count of the injured. “We will not bow down to India”, chanted the students in their bright coloured uniforms.
Indian oil trucks stopped crossing into Nepal because of protests in the south, prompting authorities to try to limit the use of cars and save fuel.
A total of 17 people also lost their lives on Mount Everest by avalanches triggered by the natural disaster.
