Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche Ordered To Recall Emissions Software by
Volkswagen is set to cut trim levels and variant variety in the near future to help save money as it continues to rectify vehicles and pay fines following the emissions scandal.
“Volkswagen is reviewing all its investment plans – those that are not considered essential will be cancelled or delayed”, the spokesman said.
Elzbieta Bienkowska, the European commissioner for industrial policy, argued that the company should treat European consumers the same as those in the U.S. Though details of the fix it submitted to U.S. regulators havent been published, the carmaker offered Volkswagen owners $1,000 in compensation as a good-will gesture.
And the remedy just may be a money-saver.
The German automaker is moving ahead with the aim of implementing the required technical update in the first vehicles during a recall from January 2016.
Volkswagen CEO Matthias Mueller said that the steps needed to fix diesel cars in Europe equipped with illegal emissions-control software are technically and financially manageable. Of the eight suspended employees, at least six are senior employees.
It added: “Porsche awaits detailed information from the engine supplier, Audi AG, as to the specific actions which will be necessary to correct and recertify the 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine”.
Volkswagen is building a world-class collection of lawsuits.
At the same time, authorities in Germany and in California have mounted new investigations into the scandal. This is one of several investigations in Germany targeting VW and its subsidiaries.
The carmaker has faced an emissions scandal on three fronts: cheating software it installed in about 11 million cars worldwide; irregular carbon dioxide ratings on about 800,000 vehicles in Europe; and additional questionable emissions software in about 85,000 VW, Audi and Porsche cars with 3.0-litre diesel engines in the US.
An Audi spokesperson on Friday told Edmunds the CARB filing and timeframe was expected.
