Dad of missing boy held after human remains found in barn
Cops were called to Michael A. Jones’s home for a completely separate crime – he allegedly alsofired a gun at his wife, Heather.
The case against Jones involves a 7-year-old boy known as AJ that police believe has been missing since summer.
A woman FOX 4 will identify as “Shelly” is an acquaintance of Jones’ wife, and said last Thursday she received a panicked call from her. Shelly is concerned about her own safety and asked FOX 4 to not show her face or fully identify her. Jones is behind bars on a $10 million bond, the largest that Gorman says he’s seen in 34 years as a prosecutor.
Police said during the investigation that began on Wednesday that the 7-year-old had been missing for “an extended period of time and was possibly dead”, NBC News reported.
A Kansas City, Kansas, man has made his first appearance on a child abuse charge that was filed after human remains were found at a barn on his property.
However bad the officers expected the scene to be, however, likely fell short when investigators made a “sickening” discovery – one alarming enough to warrant an incredibly high $10 million bond.
Seven other children, ranging in age from 1-11, also lived with Jones and have been placed into protective custody.
“For the police team that’s been out there having to go through this, they have really been struck by this”, said Wyandotte County Prosecutor Jerome Gorman. Investigators said they’re looking into whether the hogs were purchased for that reason.
Authorities didn’t say who told officers about the boy, but say human remains were later discovered in Jones’ barn.
