Iran demands closure of IAEA probe
The IAEA released a disputed report in November 2011, saying that based on credible information it obtained, Tehran might have covertly carried out nuclear research plans on an atomic bomb, the PMDs.
Iran has threatened to cancel the nuclear deal with world powers unless an investigation in the country’s alleged nuclear related weapons research is canceled, AFP reported. The probe is said to be part of the secret “side agreements” required to conclude the agreement.
The committee reports to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final word on all policy decisions. The IAEA chief Yukiya Amano has said the file is still open on fhe military dimension issue.
Shamkhani says now the P5+1 group “must choose” between the nuclear deal and the PMD file, according to ISNA.
“What closes the PMD case is the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of governors’ resolution”. “This is not an issue which can be answered “yes” or “no”,” he said.
Iran and Greece are going to discuss a long array of economic relations issues, including banking, oil, industry, transportation and urban development during a two-day visit by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias and his accompanying delegation which consists of the minister of industry and deputy minister of foreign trade, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.
In its “very significant final step”, the IAEA should prepare the technical ground for the closure of the case on PMD allegations in Iran’s nuclear program in order to restore global trust in the United Nations nuclear watchdog, he added.
Iran expects the nuclear agreement to be implemented at the start of next year, setting the stage for sanctions to be lifted, Iranian nuclear negotiator Abbas Araqchi said last week.
