Obama, Putin discuss Syria, Ukraine during climate talks
Amid a growing rift between Moscow and Ankara, Russia’s prime minister Dmitry Medvedev has ordered more retaliatory measures against Turkey. The White House says Obama expressed regret for the death of a Russian pilot and crew member in that incident.
Mr Obama plans to hold a meeting Tuesday morning with Mr Erdogan where he will again encourage de-escalation between Russian Federation and Turkey, Mr Rhodes said. Russian Federation is ready to allocate a state export credit of $5 billion to roughly 35 Iranian projects in such sectors as energy, construction, electricity generation and infrastructure.
“The two presidents discussed the imperative of making progress on the Vienna process to bring about a ceasefire and political resolution to the civil war in Syria”, the official said, referring to worldwide talks in the Austrian capital on the Syria crisis.
“The protection of our airspace (and) land borders is not only a right, but a duty for my government, said Davutoglu”. But some observers say Russian Federation is targeting other rebel groups to bolster the forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
During the discussion, the American president also emphasised a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis, adding that sanctions against Russian Federation can be rolled back when Moscow honours the Minsk cease-fire accord, according to the White House official.
Obama and Putin met briefly on the sidelines of global climate talks outside Paris.
