Grey Cup is nirvana for CFL fans
Before the 2014 season, the CFL became the first football league to make pass interference subject to video replay review. “We’re going to beat them up on all aspects of the game”.
“I can tell you this, it won’t be anything that we haven’t done before”, he said.
Reilly was named the MVP of the game, going 21/35 for 269 yards and two touchdowns through the air. That result of the call, gave the Eskimos the ball at the Redblacks’ 10-yard line.
The Eskimos then put together a long touchdown drive in the final three minutes of the half.
CFL most outstanding player Henry Burris and the RedBlacks stormed out to a 13-0 lead before Reilly even touched the ball thanks to a Kendial Lawrence fumble, but the Eskimos didn’t panic and carved out a 17-3 run over the next quarter and a half to take a 17-16 lead into the break.
This was a bitter ending to the season for Ottawa, appearing in its first Grey Cup since a 26-23 loss to Edmonton in 1981. The point after attempt failed and the Eskimos led 17-16 at halftime.
Reilly orchestrated an eight-play, 88-yard drive just before the half, capping it with a short touchdown pass to Akeem Shavers with less than 10 seconds left on the clock. A two-point conversion on a pass from Reilly to Shavers made it 26-20, Edmonton. Reilly also ran for 66 yards.
WINNIPEG-Excitement for the Canadian football showdown of the year reached its nadir in Winnipeg as Edmonton and Ottawa fans decked themselves out in team colours and engaged in a bit of friendly trash talk prior to the start of Sunday’s Grey Cup.
Defensive back Jerrell Gavins (No. 24, Boise State) is inactive for this game.
This Grey Cup game was indeed a matchup of the best teams in the East and West Divisions.
The drive was aided by Edmonton head coach Chris Jones challenging an incompletion that was ultimately changed to pass interference against Ottawa’s Brandon Sermons.
In the first quarter, the Redblacks took an early 13-0 lead with touchdowns on their first two possessions before momentum shifted in Edmonton’s favour.
Henry Burris found Patrick Lavoie for a touchdown on the REDBLACKS first posession of the game.
Edmonton responded with a 25-yard Sean Whyte field goal, then got a Burris interception on a terrible under-throw and turned that into points as well, with Mike Reilly connecting with Adarius Bowman for the score. On the final play of the third quarter, Whyte banged a 35-yard field goal off the upright.
