Agents’ fees: Liverpool pay the most in the Premier League
Liverpool, the English soccer team backed by the owners of baseball’s Boston Red Sox, paid 14.3 million pounds ($21.5 million) in agent fees in 2015, more than any other team in the Premier League, according to official figures.
The figures, from between September 2014 and October this year, put Liverpool in the number one spot with £14.3m paid out.
While the rest of us mere mortals are living like paupers, astronomical sums are being forked out by clubs to land big name players…and football agents have never had it so good.
Next on the list came Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United, who splashed out £13.8m on agents, with city rivals Manchester City third with £12.4m spent.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Brendan Rodgers is the bookies favourite to succeed Steve McClaren as manager should owner Mike Ashley decide to swing the axe after the club’s poor start to their league season.
However, the biggest increase in spending was witnessed at Arsenal, whose agents’ fees rocketed from £4.3m to £11.9m. Although it appears Chelsea have certainly not been too frugal on the fees in the past…
Fifteen players joined the Hornets during the summer and several players sign new contracts with the club.
