Brittany Leith hit the center median before her auto flipped, landing on its roof along the side of the highway.
A 25-year-old mother-of-one who survived a auto crash on Sunday morning has died after going back to the vehicle to grab her purse, police claim.
As she tried crossing the three-lane highway to return to the vehicle, police said, she was then struck and killed by a passing motorist.
Then, when police arrived and were securing the scene, a state police vehicle was struck from behind by an SUV. She stood next to her 2006 Nissan Sentra when another driver struck Leith, killing her, police told the outlet. As she climbed inside of her vehicle and began gathering her belongings, the driver of a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu slammed into her auto, killing the young mom.
Anna Leith said her granddaughter was on her way home from a friend’s house when she was killed.
That’s when the mother of a three-year-old made the decision that would cost her life. “She loved Zoey more than anything”, she added. She had started once before but soon dropped out; however, she was finally back on the right trajectory and her grandmother was “so proud of her”.
Before her sudden death, Leith had gone back to cosmetology school to obtain her beauty license.
According to State Police Senior Investigator Thomas Hughes, Leith was adamant that she had to collect her belongings despite warnings from other motorists. They finally reopened the roadway at around 11:30 a.m.
