Utah Jazz Weekly: Jazz with chance to end Warriors winning streak
Even on the road, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is a hit.
Discipline against transition: The Warriors feast on opponents in transition, their lethal group of shooters and passers spreading out and often bombing teams to death in short spans that can wrap games up in a hurry. Favors is becoming borderline automatic from midrange in the pick-and-roll, and Hayward looked like the force offensively we all know. Alec Burks scored 21 points to lead the Jazz. Gordon Hayward leads in points with 17.7 per game. “He deserves a lot of credit, because that’s not easy when you don’t play consistently and you get thrown in there to be professional enough to stay ready.”… In order to beat that record by 46.9 percent, a player would have to dish out a total of 1,710 in one season, which would mean that player would have to average 20.9 assists per game over an 82-game schedule.
HORNETS: Center Al Jefferson will miss approximately 2 to 3 weeks with a strained left calf. With a little under two minutes of action to go in the first quarter, the team enjoyed a comfortable 39-19 lead over the Suns. But as Rodney Hood described later, the play’s timing was off, so Hood was forced to make a play. Not only does he lead the league in scoring at 32.1 points per game, he has also made over half of his shots. When they saw me contesting shots, they pulled everybody in to get offensive rebounds.
Jimmy Butler hit a pair of free throws to put the Bulls up by what turned out to be the final score with 10.6 seconds left in the fourth. Without timeouts, the Jazz couldn’t do anything with 2.5 seconds left. The difference was Curry’s superhuman make from deep, plus Green coming up with a loose ball rebound. The Warriors haven’t lost a game yet, but the Jazz have a shot to change that.
The Warriors have won 23 straight regular-season games dating back to last season (see full recap).
Jimmy Butler scored 14 points and reserve Doug McDermott had 12 for Chicago in the opener of a four-game homestand.
The Jazz have a chance at greatness Monday night. In the first half, Golden State shot 66 percent overall but was even better from 3-point range at 75 percent.
Their big, athletic frontcourt of Favors and Gobert has one of the highest ceilings in the league-both players are under 25-and has already been putting up big numbers. “They’re obviously a great team with great firepower… He’s playing at an All-Star level right now”, Walton said. They have nothing to hang their heads about, and if their recent response to adversity has told us anything, Orlando is in for an intense and motivated Jazz team Thursday night. It was his eighth double-double of the season and this one came against an elite Jazz defense. That’s a hard team to beat, and you nearly have to play perfectly in order to do so. This will be tough game for the Jazz.
“Brook did not think in his wildest years I was going to shoot that one” James said. “They don’t shy away from it, and it’s not just Steph. The great teams are the ones that can focus on each individual game”.
The Warriors now embark on a seven-game trip during which they will be chasing the 27-game winning streak set by the Miami Heat during the 2012-13 season.
The Utah Jazz rebound 43.1 times per game and are ranked 23rd. In many ways, with a small deficit all night long, it really felt like a playoff game in terms of atmosphere.
