Decisive DRS decision was wrong: ICC
Asked to elaborate on DRS, Taylor said: “We can understand when the umpires make the wrong decision on the field but once you’ve got so many different angles and what-not, you think that more often than not, 99 to 100 percent of the time you’re going to get the right answer”.
New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum spoke to the umpires on the field after the decision, but Taylor declined to elaborate on that conversation.
New Zealand Cricket complained to the ICC over the matter, and in its response the governing body says it has reviewed the decision and admitted it was incorrect.
Lyon’s reprieve proved costly for New Zealand as he stitched a crucial 74-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Peter Nevill to give Australia a morale-boosting first innings lead.
“I think what we’ve seen in the last two Test matches is closer to where we want to be as a team and by the time that Australia arrive on our shores, I’m sure after a pretty intense summer as well, we’ll be nearly reaching our peak as a team”, McCullum said.
“There’s been official representation from New Zealand Cricket, and from the team management as well”, he said. Also the fact that the snickometer showed no sharp noise influenced the final decision made after about five minutes of reviewing.
“We don’t talk to umpires involved in the game during the game and we try and go through the appropriate channels”.
“Roshan Mahanama’s the match referee and he’s the initial point of contact”.
The ICC’s media Twitter account announced the news, saying Llong made an incorrect judgement, but that the former English first-class player had followed the correct protocol.
Hesson believed the pink ball match was a success but said there needed to be some adjustments to the ball. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the technology at all”. “No issues (with the process)”.
Richardson further insisted that the decisions are taken based on umpire’s judgement and there is no guarantee in which way it is going to go. The Kiwis, who were dismayed at the decision, didn’t do too well with the bat in the second innings either, as they were bowled out for 208 on day three.
