Tyson Fury: WBC champion Deontay Wilder wants to fight Brit
The new world heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury, is well known for his truly weird rants and antics.
There is a rematch clause in the contract between Fury and the 39-year-old Klitschko, and the beaten champion – who had his first loss in almost 10 years – has said: “It’s to be continued”.
Tyson Fury has told world heavyweight title rival Deontay Wilder to wait his turn if he wants a shot at the unified champion.
As a matter of fact, Fury – who has labeled Team Klitschko “cheats” – says he didn’t drink anything until he returned to Britain because he thought that he was going to be set up to fail a drug test.
Prior to the bout I couldn’t pick Fury to win, but I felt he was a live underdog because of his awkwardness and the fact that Wladimir was aging in dog-years.
At a press conference at Bolton Wanderers’ Macron Stadium – where he spent time training for the Klitschko fight – the new world heavyweight champion was greeted by around 40 cameras and up to 100 reporters.
Fury became the WBA, WBO and IBF king on Saturday when he shocked Wladimir Klitschko on points in Dusseldorf – and his victory prompted the likes of Haye and WBC champion Deontay Wilder to express their interest in fighting him in 2016. I think that’s a fight that could very well go against Joshua with him getting knocked out. I enjoyed it. I got a great reception from the German fans. “I need to invest in a better pair of socks than this pair of 50-for-a-pound”, he joked, referencing the excess of foam Klitschko had wanted under the canvas. However, I wasn’t too keen on attending the event because since 2002, I just despise the heavyweight division, which was for many years my favorite division in boxing!
“All that I know and that I can talk about is that I’m the number one heavyweight on the planet”.
He called the Klitschko camp “cheats” – saying he avoided drinking water for fear of sabotage, dismissed questions about being a role model and described the sport’s biggest names as “just bare bums in the shower”.
Tyson Fury (R) mixes it up with Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday.
“Many experts have said that they did not recognise Wladimir [in that fight, because he did not look like his usual self]. I am what I am”, added Fury. I’m the man and if anybody can prove me wrong it’s in the boxing ring.
