Three up, three down: Steelers vs. Seahawks

In losing the game that evolved into offensive fireworks, one thing stood clear about Pittsburgh’s defense when the smoke cleared.

It was the latest in a string of poor performances from the Steelers’ secondary. Their underneath coverage was awful and the tackling may have been worse. The Seahawks eventually scored on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Jermaine Kearse, his second scoring catch of the day, with 12:17 to go in the game.

But now Wilson won’t have Graham as an option for the rest of the season.

That means Wilson is going to have to do more than he has ever done down the stretch if this team is going to make a run. Seattle trailed by four points at halftime. Roethlisberger was on the ground for a few seconds after the play but didn’t show noticeable symptoms while standing. Had he been listening to the external voices calling for him to stay in the pocket, to color his game inside the lines of the game plan?Certainly, with the big contract, everyone was expecting him to put the offense on his back when they needed it. The past two games, he has done exactly that, throwing eight touchdown passes and no interceptions against San Francisco and Pittsburgh. We gave up a million in the first ones. When Wheaton, Brown, and Martavis Bryant are playing at their best, they are deadly. On a day when Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw five touchdowns and no interceptions, those costly interceptions from the Steelers were the deciding factors in the game. Those four opponents are Cincinnati, Denver at home, and closing out with games in Baltimore and Cleveland. We travel to win games. Graham was seen after the game leaving the locker room on crutches, wearing a full right leg support before exiting on a cart, according to NFL Media’s Steve Wyche. Except there was no crumbling Sunday, no wondering who was going to make the critical play. Backup Jones, who took a shotgun snap on a play that started off of field-goal formation and took the sector for the Steelers’ last drive whereas Roethlisberger underwent concussion checks, threw two interceptions. It was the third time in as many games they have allowed a 300-yard passer.

Markus Wheaton had the best game of his three-year career with nine receptions for 201 yards and one touchdown.

As always we love talking football, particularly Steelers football. Given how the offense was producing led them to that opinion. As the saying goes…live by the sword, die by the sword. Baldwin raced to the end zone and the Steelers had to turn to Landry Jones for any type of comeback.

Mike Tomlin says that Ben Roethlisberger suffering a reported concussion did not influence his decision to kick a field goal late in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 39-30 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. “Ben has it with Heath and he has it with Antonio, because they’ve been doing it for years”.
