Tyson Fury next opponent: Deontay Wilder willing to have heavyweight
“There are a few world champions now up here – me, Anthony Crolla, Terry Flanagan, Scott Quigg, and if I’ve missed anybody out then I apologise, but I don’t think I have”. Not according to Fury.
“They are cheats, they are extremely good at cheating”, Fury, a Mancunian from Irish Traveller lineage, insisted. “I won’t be dictated to by anyone”.
I’d have to say that Deontay Wilder is probably too much of a risk for fury to take because it’s a bad match-up for him. However, Klitschko was boring as shit and I can not imagine an exciting or memorable Era of Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder or whoever else is a contender today.
Fury polarizes opinion out of the ring, but there’s general agreement – especially after Saturday’s fight – that the guy can box.
The 27-year-old upset the long-reigning Klitschko in Dusseldorf on Saturday night – picking up the WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight titles in the process. Fury called it a “masterclass”.
In his first news conference since becoming world heavyweight champion, Fury compared his “masterclass” performance to a “mongoose in a cobra’s nest, taking all the eggs home”. You can’t win rounds by landing one or two punches. And appreciate what you’re seeing.
There was more. The Telegraph can also disclose that at the weigh-in on Friday, Fury had been mystified that the scales provided by the organisers has him at 112kgs (17st 8lbs). “People want it to happen, at some stage down the line it will happen, whether it’s next year or the year after”. I know what it takes. Let him go and fight Fred Flintstone or Joe Bloggs and make no money. Had Klitschko been able to land one good right hand and shake Fury, Tyson would’ve lost some of his nerve and Wladimir’s confidence would’ve escalated. And the presence of the erratic Fury makes it lively and unmissable. Klitschko has suggested he wants to trigger the clause.
As a matter of fact, Fury – who has labeled Team Klitschko “cheats” – says he didn’t drink anything until he returned to Britain because he thought that he was going to be set up to fail a drug test. “We’ve been trying for a kid for about two years and nothing has happened but we finally found out that she’s five weeks pregnant yesterday”, said Fury. “And we’ll get better and stronger all the time”.
