Nets rally in fourth quarter to beat Pistons
Brooklyn Nets forward Thaddeus Young sinks a basket against Detroit Pistons forward Ersan Ilyasova in the first half of an NBA basketball game at Barclays Center on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015. The fourth made all the difference, though. Ellington is a career 38 percent three-point shooter, so it was only a matter of time before he started making them.
Brooklyn defeated the Pistons, 87-83, at Barclays Center on Sunday night, picking up their fourth win of the season with a fourth-quarter rally. However, this group found a way. The Nets will play 20 home games in December and January – 10 in each month – the most of any NBA team over that span. The Nets are 3-3 in Brooklyn this season and the six home games to date are the second-fewest in the Association.
Unlike any other iteration of the Brooklyn Nets, the team is low on talent but high on guts. Despite the win, Houston is still under.
“We have been capable of battle again”, stated Nets head coach Lionel Hollins stated.
“We take an assessment and we went over it with our guys – where we were defensively, what we were doing well and haven’t done as well and what we need to get back on”, he said. That’s why they pay him the big bucks. After all, not every shot down the stretch has to be a contested mid-range jumper, tough long two-pointer or floater by a probing Jack or Joe Johnson.
“I know who we have to be – we have to be a team that relies on our defense and our rebounding”. “They were just sort of feeling sorry for themselves”. They played road games, had a great win, had a great game, and they lose – or the way we lost – [had us] dragging through the first part of [Sunday’s] game.
“Wayne and Shane (Larkin, who added nine points) gave us a huge lift and made shots when we needed them”, said Lopez, who missed 12 of his first 14 shots.
Andre Drummond had 20 points and 17 rebounds for the Pistons. We’ve been fighting with top-tier teams, teams that are the middle of the pack. They said, ‘All of them look the same in April.’ At the end of the day, as long as it goes in the win column, we’re happy with it. … You know, we can be one of those teams if we come in and try to stick it to them for 48 minutes.
After a good shooting night against the Rockets – an very bad defensive team – the Pistons are still 28th in shooting and three-point shooting. The Nets play their next eight games in NY, with one against the Knicks at the Garden on Friday.
“I didn’t think he brought much energy to the Milwaukee game, and I didn’t think he brought much energy tonight”, Van Gundy said of the two routs the Pistons received this week.
“That’s something we should’ve been able to do a better job of”, coach Stan Van Gundy told the team’s official website.
