England wrap up T20 series with super over win against Pakistan
Chris Jordan conceded just three runs in the super-over setting the win for England in the third T20I in Sharjah.
England then knocked off the four runs they needed to win the match and take the series 3-0. Hopefully I can get some more runs under my belt in the Lions matches and see where it takes me’.
Jordan has had no previous experience of this tensest of scenarios in limited-overs cricket, but could hardly have made a better job of it at the first attempt.
“Some of the situations I was in, I had to steady it but I enjoyed every minute”, he said. And Afridi said there was plenty of work to do before the big event next year despite Pakistan’s number 2 ranking in T20 cricket.
Shahid Afridi, who became the all-time leading wicket taker in this format, will once again need to lead to from front, if at all, the hosts are to taste a win.
With two runs needed from two balls, and a rendition of “Long Live Pakistan” having blared supportively mid-over from the PA system, the highest T20 score of Shoaib Malik’s career – 75 from 54 balls – came to grief whenChris Woakes had him caught at long-on.
“It was a bit uncomfortable at times – at one point I was up on a stage, being grilled about something I wasn’t too sure about – but it was quite tough and I think everyone got something out if it”. Vince was on just 4 when, pushing at one off the back foot, he hit the ball back pretty firmly just to the left of the bowler’s head.
“I more or less put myself in the position that “I’m ready” – and luckily I was able to deliver”.
By the time he departed, the equation was in Pakistan’s favour.
Morgan and Buttler then appeared to have an easier task. They managed to beat Pakistan by 3 runs in the second game and in the super over in the final game so the games could have gone either way.
But as he has done so many times before, Afridi introduced himself into the attack early – in the sixth over of the innings – and broke the stand. going past Root’s defence with the fifth ball of his first over.
“Certainly the first one I got turned square, so I’m glad we weren’t chasing any more than four”.
“We’ve had two flawless individual performances – CJ’s (Jordan’s) over today (Monday) and Jos’ (Buttler) hundred in Dubai”. “We shouldn’t rule out a return for Bilawal Bhatti because he has pace, while Umar Gul is still a very good option if he can remain fit”. “They came back hard and played some fantastic cricket after losing the Test series and they have shown us that they’re a very fine one-day and T20 team”.
Waqar said: “England were faster and fitter than us”. They will also be happy with the result from Friday’s game.
Sam Billings then fell for eight, top-edging Anwar, a ball after hitting his only boundary as England slipped further into trouble at 88-6 with still over seven overs to bat.
