Lincoln police officers wounded in shooting
The officers made contact with a man found to have a felony arrest warrant during a traffic stop on Adams Street about 9 p.m. when the suspect produced a firearm while being taken into custody, according to The Journal Star.
Police on Monday identified the man who died in the confrontation as Zachary Grigsby, who was white.
While many questions were left unanswered, LPD did confirm an officer-involved shooting on its twitter account.
Ultimately, Grigsby pulled a small-caliber handgun and fired, hitting a male officer in the right arm, he said.
“Then he started getting on the wrong side again”, Sheehan said. That’s when the officers returned fire and killed him.
By midnight, the area was fairly quiet, with half a dozen or so officers near the taped-off area waiting for crime scene investigators to complete their work.
Both officers were taken to Lincoln hospitals. The female officer, who was put in a headlock and punched, went home earlier Monday, the chief said.
10/11’s Lauren Scott says she saw two people taken away in handcuffs.
Nebraska State Patrol tweeted, “Support for fellow officers @Lincoln_Police and the families of all involved #thinblueline”. Schaaf remains with the department.
