Bayern Munich brand Thomas Muller ‘irreplacable’ amid Chelsea and Manchester
“Thomas does not need another adventure and he does not need to go to Manchester United or Chelsea”, Matthaus told German newspaper Bild.
According to the Mirror, however, the Stamford Bridge outfit have also entered the race for the free-scoring German forward, as they look for a replacement for Diego Costa, who has had a fall out with Jose Mourinho.
Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus insists Thomas Muller doesn’t need Chelsea or Manchester United amid speculation linking the Germany global.
Injuries meant boss Pep Guardiola had to shuffle his pack for the match but Muller was again at the forefront for his side, netting the opening goal as Bayern continued their unbeaten start to the campaign.
“Thomas Muller embodies everything which distinguishes FC Bayern Munich”, enthused the club’s director of sport Matthias Sammer.
United failed with a £75 million offer for Muller last summer and remain keen on the striker.
At the age of 26 he already has a World Cup to his name, and he has scored 31 goals for his country in 68 appearances to date. “He started his professional career at Bayern and I think he should end his career here”, Matthaus said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. He does not need a new challenge, since he plays every year at the highest level with Bayern.
And in terms of Bayern allowing their star player to leave the club, as Rummenigge put it in September, “the door remains closed”.
