Guard Geoff Schwartz placed on injured reserve with broken leg, Giants sign
Offensive guard Adam Gettis was signed to the New York Giants’ active roster from the practice squad of the Oakland Raiders. Gettis, 6-2 and 305 pounds, was with the Giants in training camp and did two stints on their practice squad earlier this season. He also spent part of this season on the Giants’ practice squad.
The Giants were missing starting left guard Justin Pugh (concussion) and center Weston Richburg (high ankle sprain).
Gettis has a chance to play this upcoming week, as the Giants offensive line was rather poor throughout the game against the Redskins. He was limited to just two games in 2014, thanks in large part to a dislocated toe.
Schwartz started each of the first 10 games at right guard.
“It’s not good”, coach Tom Coughlin said of Schwartz.
Schwartz, who signed a four-year deal with the Giants prior to the 2014 season, said after Sunday’s game he believed the fact his ankle was surgically repaired with a metal plate helped place stress on the bone. The Giants lost a big piece of this offensive line that has allowed Eli Manning to find enough time to get the ball to Odell Beckham JR plenty of times this season. The move comes after the Giants placed starter Geoff Schwartz on injured reserve after he fractured his lower leg in Week 12 against the Redskins. He was last waived by the Giants on November 4.
