Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, sentenced to death in the Boston Marathon bombing, has been moved into Supermax, the nation’s most secure federal prison, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
AP In this June 24, 2015, file courtroom sketch, Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, right, stands before US District Judge George O’Toole Jr as he addresses the court during his sentencing. It’s in the same complex as the penitentiary and houses some of the country’s most notorious criminals, including September 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui (zak-uh-REE’-uhs moo-SOW’-ee) and Unabomber Ted Kaczynski (kah-ZIHN’-skee).
It is expected that Tsarnaev will eventually sit on federal death row in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Tsarnaev’s lawyers fought unsuccessfully to move his trial out of Massachusetts, where they argued that there was too much of an emotional impact to find truly impartial jurors. What he said showed no remorse, no regret, no empathy.’.
Tsarnaev could spend years appealing his death sentence.
Tsarnaev – a Muslim immigrant who took U.S. citizenship – also faces several other state charges, including carjacking and kidnapping.
