Apple Music launching public beta with Sonos
Currently, if Apple Music users want to listen to their tracks through their Sonos wireless speakers they have to connect their smartphone or tablet to the speaker with an aux cable.
Apple Music and Sonos are now seeking users for the public beta, which will launch on December 15.
Pandora is only available to users in the United States, Australia and New Zealand, while Spotify reportedly covers a much larger area of 58 markets around the world, adding to its potential reach.
Sonos players will finally support Apple Music.
The collaboration marks the first integration of Apple’s music streaming services on third-party hardware.
Sonos already offers other streaming services such as Spotify, Google Play Music and Tidal, so Apple Music joining the party isn’t particularly surprising. Users will be able to stream all aspects of the Apple Music service, including For You, New, Radio, and My Music, to any or every room using the system. With Apple Music, though, the iPhone maker is loosening its constraints a bit.
Sonos CEO John MacFarlane acknowledged that some artists and recording companies are still debating the notion of streaming music, as opposed to selling digital copies. A final version will be released early next year. You’ll then need to choose Beta Program and then Join the Beta Program. Music will be able to be played through Sonos’ smart speakers with up to six family accounts.
The goal of the beta is to gain audience feedback and help Sonos “shape the experience of listening to Apple Music on Sonos in your home”.
