Chelsea defender in talks over Atletico return
English Premier League champions Chelsea are set to replace full-back Filipe Luis with Ghanaian player Abdul Baba Rahman.
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has revealed his club is in talks with Chelsea regarding left-back Filipe Luis’ possible return to the Vicente Calderon stadium this summer.
Luis is believed to be close to a £15.8m return to Atletico, and while Cerezo has confirmed that discussions have been held, he has stressed that a deal is yet to be struck.
Filipe Luis’ replacement, therefore, will also likely join the west London giants simply as back-up to the Spain global; however, this could be a role that Augsburg’s Rahman may be open to – given the experience the 21-year-old could gain among Europe’s elite.
“There are negotiations in place but I don’t know how fruitful they will be”, Cerezo said to the Spanish media.
The defender had said at the time that he was worried about being “too comfortable at Atletico”, and that he wanted to finish his career elsewhere in a “strong and spectacular way”.

“Filipe chose to leave and now he has the chance to come back”, Koke told reporters on Thursday.
“Filipe is no traitor”.
Chelsea only signed Luis last summer, but the 29-year-old has struggled to usurp Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back, making just nine starts in the Premier League and Atletico are keen to re-sign the Brazilian. We’ll be a better team and fight for more things. “As long as he plays and does well there won’t be a problem”.
