Sylvester Stallone is developing a Rambo TV series
The man who played the eponymous American-as-apple-pie protagonist, Sylvester Stallone will at least be involved as executive producer. The television show will focus on the adventures of Rambo and his son.
While some might dismiss the exploits of the embattled wayward Green Beret John Rambo as a Reagan era relic, it still seems to be the case that his country loves him as much as he loves it. Rambo may soon be making a comeback, moving things to the small screen this time.
Entertainment One and Avi Lerner’s Millennium Films will lend financial support for Rambo: New Blood, which is set to bring together Stallone’s musclebound solider with his son J.R., described as a talented and astute ex-Navy SEAL. In fact, it’s still uncertain whether or not Stallone himself will appear in the series, though John Rambo is said to be a key character.
At the moment, plans relating to production and release for Rambo: New Blood have not yet been announced.
Nu Image/Millenium Films, which has the rights to Rambo, and eOne originally teamed to develop a Rambo TV series in 2013 with the goal to shop it to broadcasters in the US and internationally. The franchise consists of the films First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Rambo III and Rambo. Pitched as a father-son actioner, the network’s new project will be written by Die Hard and The Fugitive scribe Jeb Stuart, and though Deadline notes that Stallone’s place is yet to be officially confirmed, it’s expected that the action veteran will board the series to star and executive produce.
On TV, Rambo previously got animated treatment with the 1986 syndicated series Rambo: The Force of Freedom.
